For singers and non-singers alike, we'll explore the relationship of the voice to the machine in this active, experimental workshop. Our voices can act as a control signal and audio, as a percussion impulse and sound design. To find some of the ways we can transform that vocal input and our own performance role, we'll walk through examples of various techniques in free software Pure Data and SuperCollider. That will include different approaches to voice and mic input as control, how to handle pitch tracking, correction, and harmonisation, and other experiments, using a combination of simple code and patching. Then, we'll try producing an ensemble chorus of the results, playing together. Bring a mic and audio interface if you can, but we'll also experiment with using the internal mic in your computer and possibly your phone.
