Marco Barotti:

Installation opening

Marco Barotti is a media artist based in Berlin. After finishing music studies at the Siena Jazz Academy, he began merging sound with visual art, focusing on interventions in urban and natural surroundings. His installations are moving sculptures, and he uses sound waves as the engine for the movement and inner nature of the works. He moulds bare sonar architecture of commodity products into post-technological imaginaries. Barotti’s art practice is a poetic and visual sonification of our daily habitat, allowing the audience to not only see, but also feel sound.

The Swans installation consists of 8 satellite dishes, typical residues of our time that represent mass media. The swans, brought to life by sound, wind and water, peacefully float in the water, and merge with the surrounding nature. The installation provokes the feeling of revulsion, and that of intimate familiarity in the nature at the same time, and challenges the audience to reflect on tech waste and its impact on the environment.
